Lensmeters: how to choose

A lensmeter (also called a lensometer or focimeter) reads sphere, cylinder, axis, prism and add power, so labs and optical shops can verify incoming lenses and finished glasses. Digital models add progressive-lens modes, UV and blue-light checks and data output.

ENOCHTEC offers two automatic lensmeters and an integrated lens analyzer that also measures material properties.

Questions to answer before you choose

  1. Do you only verify prescriptions? A digital or automatic lensmeter covers power, axis, prism and add.
  2. Do you inspect lens materials? Labs and lens distributors checking index and Abbe number need an analyzer such as the FL-920.
  3. Do you need data output? Check RS232 or Bluetooth for lab software and printing.

Lensmeter FAQ

What is the difference between a lensmeter, lensometer and focimeter?

They are different names for the same instrument used to measure spectacle-lens power.

Can a lensmeter measure blue-light filtering?

The HV-300 measures UV and blue-light transmittance; the GM-300 offers a blue-light comparison mode.

What does a lens analyzer add to a lensmeter?

The FL-920 also measures refractive index (1.3–1.9), Abbe number and centre thickness, which helps quality control of lens materials.
