Optical coherence tomography (OCT) produces cross-sectional images of the retina, so clinicians can review retinal layers, the macula and the optic nerve head rather than only a surface photograph. Spectral-domain systems acquire many A-scans per second, which shortens capture time and supports 3D scan patterns.

What does spectral-domain OCT mean?
Spectral-domain OCT captures depth information from the interference spectrum in one measurement, allowing much faster scanning than older time-domain systems. The OCT-500 records at least 24,000 A-scans per second.
Does an OCT replace a fundus camera?
They answer different questions. OCT shows cross-sectional retinal structure; a fundus camera documents the visible retinal surface. Many clinics use both.
What pupil size does the OCT-500 need?
The specified minimum pupil diameter is 3 mm.
