Optometry units: how to choose

An optometry unit (refraction unit or ophthalmic workstation) brings the patient chair, instrument table, phoropter arm, lighting and storage into one station. It sets the layout of the refraction room and determines how smoothly the examiner moves between devices.

ENOCHTEC offers fully automatic units, an automatic unit with a two-device table and a stand-alone optometry table.

Questions to answer before you choose

  1. How big is the room? Compare overall dimensions with the room and leave space for the chart distance.
  2. How many instruments go on the table? Count the devices (auto refractor, slit lamp, tonometer) and the phoropter arm.
  3. Who are the patients? Wheelchair access and children may need extra chair travel or a sliding table.
  4. Which voltage do you have? Check the supply voltage for your country.

Optometry unit FAQ

What is the difference between an optometry unit and an optometry table?

A unit combines the chair, table, phoropter arm, lighting and storage in one workstation; a table such as the GM-560 holds instruments and is combined with a separate chair.

Are instruments included with the unit?

No. Units are supplied without diagnostic instruments; compatible devices are quoted separately.

How much space does a refraction room need?

It depends on the unit and the chart distance. Share your floor plan and we will check the layout.
